Journey underground to a world formed by stalactites, stalagmites stemming from the enormous labyrinth limestone structure. The 1,525 metres and 12 ft deep cave is known for its chambers, light holes and subterranean lake otherwise known as Grotto Lake.
Green Grotto Cave holds an important place in Jamaica’s history. The original inhabitants of the country used the cave as their dwellings. Spaniards also used the cave as a hideout location when the English started to take over. In the later years during World War 2 the cave was used to store rum barrels. The attraction is being developed to include a reserve to preserve the cave in its natural state and protect it from degrading.
